How to Make Your iPhone Battery Last Longer

That s why our tips for saving your iPhone’s battery power focus not on turning off these essential features, but on using them more efficiently. Here are ways to make your iPhone battery last longer. In iOS , head to Settings > Battery and scroll down to see a list of which apps are using what proportion of the battery power. If there are any battery-draining apps that you re not using, delete them. If you discover that the apps that suck the most battery don t need updates when you re not using them, head to Settings > General > Background App Refresh to manually toggle each app s auto-refresh. This prevents apps from constantly checking for updates or notifications to push to your phone. Even if an app doesn t appear on the list of apps […]

    Apple Lossless Audio Codec ALAC

    Dec 4 2021

Apple’s lossless ALAC goes open source, it’s like FLAC for iPods

Well, it s not nearly as exciting as a new iPhone, but Apple recently announced a bit of news that will set people in certain circles abuzz. The company s lossless audio codec, ALAC, is going open source. Similar to FLAC, the Apple Lossless Audio Codec offers some file compression while still delivering a bit-for-bit recreation of the original source material. The primary difference being that Apple devices and software do not support FLAC at least without some tinkering but can handle the Cupertino developed ALAC. The decision to release the code under the Apache license won t have much of an immediate impact on your digital audio routine, but expect support for ALAC to start popping up in more media players both hardware and software soon. All products recommended by Engadget are selected by our editorial team, independent of our parent company. apple nand replacement

    Dec 4 2021

New tests suggest Apple skimped on a key iPhone 6 component and it’s causing problems

Certain iPhone and iPhone Plus owners, as well as some iPad users, have complained about random crashes and reboots on smartphones that have GB or GB of storage and hold large libraries of apps. Various reports trying to explain the problem have identified the type of NAND memory chosen for these iPhone models as the main culprit, with some suggesting that Apple is already considering moving from triple cell TLC NAND memory to multi-level cell MLC storage in future iPhone versions. Apple has not confirmed those reports, and has not explained why GB iPhone and GB iPhone Plus devices seem to crash in certain circumstances. But a new report from Korean publication KBench shows benchmark tests for both TLC and MLC NAND memory modules used in GB iPhone units, and they reveal that the latter offers a better performance than the former. Previous reports have said that Apple may have chosen TLC NAND because it’s more affordable than MLC. The company this year significantly increased storage options for new iPhone purchases, making the GB versions cheaper than in previous years, and introducing a GB option. The same reports also said that TLC NAND is slower than MLC and SLC single-level cell, even though it can store more data per […]

This new iPhone Face ID feature Apple’s testing seems like science fiction

Face ID is the most sophisticated biometrics authentication method available on smartphones and tablets. Introduced with the iPhone X in , Face ID is available on all iPhone and iPad flagships. That means it’s on every iPhone except for the SE, and all the iPad Pros. Only a few of Apple’s rivals attempted to replicate the D face recognition system contained within the iPhone’s notch design. Huawei, LG, and Google are among those who tried to release real Face ID alternatives. Everyone else pursued in-display fingerprint sensors since , while Apple kept working on Face ID.   In addition to improving the accuracy and speed of Face ID authentication, Apple is also working to make the TrueDepth camera smaller. Eventually, it will be placed beneath the OLED screen. But a recent discovery shows that Apple is already developing a brilliant iPhone and iPad Face ID feature that most users will come to appreciate. Passively, permanently authenticating the user plays a crucial role in the new tech.   The USPTO recently published an Apple patent application filed in early May . Found by Patently Apple, the document is titled Systems and Methods for Switching Vision Correction Graphical Outputs on a Display […]

Apple shares slip on report of weak iPhone demand heading into holidays

Apple shares closed down slightly negative Thursday, paring back losses of as much as % following a report about weakening iPhone demand heading into the holidays.A report Wednesday night said Apple warned its suppliers demand is lower than expected for new iPhones, rattling the stock that resisted the omicron-fueled volatility in the market this week. But word of weak demand on top of the known supply chain issues sent shares of Apple down % in premarket trading Thursday morning.Even as Apple shares fell, the broader market was up, with the Dow rising points after Wednesday s omicron sell-off.The current quarter marks the first full quarter that Apple s new iPhone model, the iPhone , will be available. Apple also introduced other new products ahead of the holiday shopping season, including a new version of AirPods and a redesigned MacBook Pro. But the iPhone remains Apple s most profitable product, so any signs of weakening demand going into the holidays are sure to send the company s shares lower.Still, analysts expect Apple to report growing revenues for the quarter after it booked more than $ billion in revenue for the first time in the holiday quarter. CEO Tim Cook told CNBC […]
